5 Nourishing Hair Masks for Dry and Dull Hair
Two weeks ago I watched Ayushmann Khurana’s comedic delight, Bala. His bald patch made me reflect on my broom-like hair and how I worry about losing them any coming day. And I know that many of you feel the same way. Weather, stress, water and many other factors affect our hair’s health. Ladies, it’s time to take matters into our own hands. No, don’t go to parlours for expensive treatments. Instead, just step into your kitchen and whip a few ingredients. You’ll be surprised to know the benefits of some of your kitchen products. Give your hair some much needed TLC and bring them back from the grave!
1. Ghee & Coconut Oil
Oye! Don’t make faces. Ghee is the bloody best and you know it. Yes, it has a distinct smell to it, but it’s qualities rule out the smell.
Procedure-
- Simply mix ghee and coconut oil in the ratio of 2:1 and warm it up.
- Apply this mixture on your scalp and tips. You can wash it after 30 minutes but I prefer to keep it on for 2 hours.
- Ghee acts as a natural conditioner so you can skip conditioning.
2. Egg & Mayonnaise
Again, I understand egg has an unbearable smell but, lord the magic! You’ll love eggs once you see the magic it does to your hair. Egg and mayo hair mask repairs dry and damaged hair and aids in hair growth.
Procedure-
- Whisk 2 eggs with 5 tablespoons of mayonnaise and add a spoon of olive oil to it.
- Apply this mixture with your fingers, from the roots to the tips. Coat your hair completely with this mixture and let it sit for 20 minutes.
- You may have to shampoo twice due to the greasy nature of mayonnaise.
3. Avocado & Banana
Avocado and banana are an unlikely pair, but a good one. The process is a little long so bear with me. Avocado helps in moisturizing while banana repairs damaged hair.
Procedure-
- Combine 1 cup of water and 1/4th cup of apple cider vinegar. Set this aside.
- Pulse half an avocado, half a banana and olive oil in a food processor. Mix it until there are no clumps present, specially banana clumps. Once I didn’t make a fine paste and had a horrible time removing the banana from my hair!
- Massage the paste on your scalp and comb it through your hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes.
- After shampooing your hair, rinse it with the apple cider water.
- Condition as usual.
4. Aloe Vera & Cinnamon
Everyone knows that aloe vera gel is the powerhouse of natural goodness. Combine it with cinnamon and it’s a win-win! Cinnamon helps in fighting a flaky scalp and restores the shine of the hair.
Procedure-
- Mix 2tbps aloe vera gel with half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder.
- Apply the mask all over hair and scalp. It may tingle a bit but don’t worry, it means the mask is working.
- Shampoo and condition after 10 minutes.
5. Strawberry & Mayonnaise
Strawberries exfoliate the scalp, getting rid of dead skin cells and therefore encouraging healthy and faster hair growth. Mayonnaise, on the other hand, helps in moisturizing your hair.
Procedure-
- Blend 8-10 strawberries with 2tbsps of mayonnaise. Make a semi-thick paste.
- Apply the mixture on wet hair (wet, not shampoo-ed)
- Leave the mask for 30 minutes, longer if you have dry hair.
- Shampoo and condition as usual.
Say hello to luscious locks, gorgeous!
