Decoding the First Day of the LFW’19
The moment I woke up today, I spent 45 minutes scrolling Instagram. Was I seeing memes or scrolling aimlessly? No silly, I was busy checking out the first day of Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive’19! After an impressive opening by Manish Malhotra, I was desperate to find out how the latest show unravels. Suffice to say, I wasn’t disappointed. Afterall, it’s the fashion week of India where only the best showcase their work. Curated twice a year, the Lakme Fashion Week marked its 20th anniversary this year. LFW is mainly responsible for integrating Indian with global fashion. Dynamic and vibrant, each show has been a breath of fresh air. Leading fashion names like Manish Malhotra, Pallavi Mohan, Anushree Reddy and Payal Singhal have showcased their work on this ramp.
I may not be Miranda Priestly, but I consider myself as a part of the jury that tries to make sense of what they see on the ramp. Come, my dear comrades, let’s take a look at what the much talked about Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive’19 has in store for us.
Manish Malhotra
Bollywood’s favourite Manish Malhotra needs no introduction. He opened the Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive’19 with his new collection named ‘Maaharumysha’. The new collection is categorised in three parts- silk in jewel tones, cotton pastels and Kashmiri wool. He partnered with Love & Care, a premium fabric wash range by Hindustan Unilever for the same. Malhotra’s colour palette compiled of softer hues like beige, ivory, salmon, white, ochre and grey- a pleasant surprise considering his love for bright and flashy colours.
Katrina Kaif was the showstopper for Manish Malhotra’s show. She donned a rich emerald green velvet lehenga with golden embellishments.
Payal Singhal
2019 also marked 20 years of Payal Singhal in the fashion industry. She says that she has evolved with the ramp. Her new collection is inspired by 1oth century gypsies and has a complete boho vibe to it. Singhal explained her collection as “the collection is all about art and craft. Gypsies and bohemia are great themes to bring together my 20 years in the industry as my brand resonates the same.” Cuties Farhan Akthar and Shibani Dandekar walked the ramp for her. Also, hello fanny packs!
Amit Aggarwal
For the uninitiated few, Amit Aggarwal is a renowned designer who draws inspiration from science. Having grown up in a house full of scientists and engineers and has observed his father work on engineering projects. His science-inspired outfits are electric at the best. Aggarwal’s newest collection showcases sheer wraps, power shoulders and billowy sleeves. The graceful Lisa Haydon and cricketer Hardik Pandya were the showstoppers for his show.
Okay honestly, Amit Aggarwal’s work is beyond my understanding. Pan badhu chaalse!
I hope the coming days of Lakme Fashion Week stand up to the mark!
