Anant & Saakshi Gurugram : Who says long-distance relationships don’t work anymore? Their’s did!

Anant & Saakshi Gurugram : Who says long-distance relationships don’t work anymore? Their’s did!

“In true love, the smallest distance is too great and the greatest distance can be bridged.” – Hans Nouwens

How they met
Saakshi Wadhawan and Anant Kapur crossed paths at a common friend’s party in 2013 and by the end of 2014, they were dating! Both come from the banking industry, so naturally, they had a lot to talk about, including food, movies and dancing! But they did go on to live in different cities, different time zones and continents for 4 years before they finally tied the knot.

“We were both from Delhi and shared a mutual love for movies, dancing, talking (I can talk and he can listen).” – Saakshi, the bride.

The Proposal
Though Saakshi had never told Anant what kind of a proposal she wanted, he knew just the right way to pop the question. The couple was in Mumbai in 2018, back where it all started.

Anant planned to take Saakshi sailing, something that she always wanted to do with him. It was around the time they celebrated their monthly anniversary, as well as Anant’s birthday, was coming up in a few days, so it was a very special weekend for them. But, it wasn’t like Saakshi was completely oblivious to what was going on. She had a hunch and was aptly dressed for the day! They set sail and while being parked in the middle of nowhere, Saakshi went on to the deck to play some music. Just then, Anant appeared with a cake, flowers, champagne and the ring! He went down on one knee and popped the question to which Saakshi said, ‘YES’!

Wedding Planning
The wedding planning was a kind of a challenge for the couple since both of them didn’t reside in India. While Anant was living in Dubai, Saakshi was in Singapore. It was their parents, friends and families who did the negotiations and helped in the planning. But the couple was on top of it all working on their wedding planning on the weekend or during evenings, after work.

Wedding Ceremonies
The couple had their ceremonies planned over 3 days – the engagement, Anant’s haldi combined with the mehendi ceremony for both the families and lastly by the sehra bandi and the wedding.

Engagement
The couple celebrated their engagement in style as they organized a cocktail party for their friends and families. The venue had a big LED screen, an island bar, a DJ and delicious food!

Saakshi was dressed in a shimmery full-length black gown that was matching with the groom-to-be Anant. Her makeup was glamourous yet mesmerizing. On the other hand, Anant dressed up in a navy blue jacket with yellow embroidery at the collar and chest pocket.

Mehendi
It was a contemporary themed mehendi ceremony for Saakshi & Anant. It was a pink-blue-yellow coloured theme with latkans and props of the same colours. They had live singers regaling the guests with a mix of Punjabi boli tappe, some retro music and latest Bollywood songs.

For the mehendi, Saakshi was dressed in a beautiful yellow lehenga set with a pink net dupatta. She kept her makeup natural and her jewellery classy.

Wedding
Finally, the big day arrived. It was divided into two parts – the wedding pheras were performed outdoors while the dinner was organized indoors. The wedding had a rust-red ivory themed decor with heavy floral decor.

Saakshi was dressed in a gorgeous red lehenga with heavy kundan jewellery and a chuda. She completed her look with an emerald-studded maang tikka. Anant chose an ivory coloured sherwani with heavy golden embroidery at the sleeves, collar and hemline. He completed his look with a light pink safa and ivory coloured juttis.

It was a traditional and cosy affair for the couple as they had only their loved ones around during the pheras. The baraat was a fun affair that was followed by milni, joota chupai and Saakshi’s brothers carrying Anant till the stage.

Saakshi had a Bollywood-style entry with her under the phoolon ki chaddar as her favourite song Din Shagna Da played in the background. The main wedding ceremony – varmala and pheras followed soon after and Anant & Saakshi were officially married. The couple then went on for a change of attire and re-entered as husband and wife to greet the guests and take pictures that would last them a lifetime!

Unlike the usual sob fest, Saakshi’s bidaai was fun, full of banter in the background and the families filled with joy for the couple. It took place at around 12:30 pm, followed by her Griha Pravesh at Anant’s house. The groom’s family had a rather quirky welcome for Saakshi as they all enjoyed a round of shots with her.
