Rohit & Shirali Mumbai : ‘When the universe conspires to make two people meet, it is for them to unite eternally!’

Rohit & Shirali Mumbai : ‘When the universe conspires to make two people meet, it is for them to unite eternally!’

“If two people are meant to be together, they will eventually find their way back into each other’s arms no matter what” -Anonymous

Like two tributaries of a river that finally merge as one into the sea, Shirali And Rohit’s love story is just like that. This long tale (and a beautiful one too) is characterized by everything possible you can imagine between a girl and guy who’ve known each other for the longest time. From meeting through common friends to finding each other on dating apps and even bumping at bars, they secretly knew there was something cosmic at play between them! Though each time they met, they clicked, Rohit’s work commitments would take him back to Europe where he was settled then. Hence nothing could possibly materialize. However, it took Rohit’s one particular trip to India that brought them even closer. He finally asked her out on a date(that was long overdue!) where he expressed his feelings for her. That was the point Shirali knew someday she would like to marry him!

Post this memorable trip, Rohit moved to Seattle. As fate would have it, Shirali’s sister was based in Seattle whom she would visit often! Finally, after all these years, when their geographical location brought them closer, they were convinced the chemistry they shared was indeed LOVE!

To sum it up in her own words, Shirali says, “Sometimes you have the person in front of you but circumstances amend things which is what happened in our case. But at the end we made our way through all the distances and got Married.”

The Proposal

Imagine a dreamy proposal in a picturesque vineyard in Portland! But that’s not all, the run-up to this story is even more fascinating. So Rohit had decided to propose to his lady love that day but wasn’t sure of the precise setting. And setting is super important. Especially if you’re more of an ‘ambiance and decor person’ just like Shirali! So in spite of driving to some of the best spots in Portland, Rohit kept driving around and not stopping to get off. Finally, they reached this gorgeous vineyard where he pulled over! After a couple of rounds of wine tasting and getting a little tipsy too 😉 Rohit took the ambiance-loving Shirali to a stunning place lit with ferry lights! Now comes the funny part where he is too drunk to propose! So eventually he asked her to pull out a gift from his jacket and it was a ring box. She was standing there with the box in her hands and he goes  “Will you Marry Me.’’

To recount this day in her own words, Shirali says, “My immediate reaction was can you go down on your knees please( lol) and then I will say yes although I was waiting to scream out a yes.Eventually I just couldn’t have been happier as I already had it in my mind that he was the person I want to Marry. It was the perfect proposal I could have imagined.”

The Wedding

Rohit and Shirali’s marriage was an elaborate affair. Sealing it with a court marriage (Rohit’s favourite part of their wedding) they followed it up with a haldi, two mehendis (an intimate home affair one and one for the bridesmaids), sangeet, a gurudwara wedding and a Maharashtrian ceremony. And finally the fabulous reception!

They wanted a very minimalistic yet elegant theme for all their functions. Hence all their functions were reflective of this theme including their outfits. Shirali kept it very elegant and traditional in a soothing yellow saree with a multi-coloured blouse for her haldi. She dazzled in an emerald-hued outfit for the home mehendi. The bridesmaids mehendi saw our bride dazzle in a sequin lehenga and adorned with floral jewellery. Rohit complemented her look with a bespoke Nehru jacket and trousers. Shirali looked like a princess in her beautiful navy blue gown. And the man of the hour rocked in a black brocade bandhgala.

The nuptial couple was a vision to behold as they walked in together for their gurudwara ceremony! Dressed in a solid shade of pink lehenga and elegant jewellery, Shirali just lit the frames up with her appearance. The ever-supportive groom, Rohit complimented her with a subtler shade of a pink brocade sherwani! For the Maharashtrian marriage the bride donned a rich traditional shaalu (sari) and the groom wore a traditional dhoti and sherwani. They brought out their contemporary style forward for the reception with a wine coloured embellished lehenga and a smart navy blue suit!

About the Photographer

The couple had an absolute blast collaborating with the crew of Happy Frames. Nothing can sum this up better than Shirali’s words, “There are times when you want to relive your best moments and Happy Frames made that true in our case . I cannot explain how beautifully they captured our wedding with every detail that even years later I will have the same smile on my face seeing the pictures(It suits their name Happy Frames). The best part is their great smiles and happy faces that makes you want to smile for the camera all the time .
